Prior to Sunday, only two quarterbacks in the history of the New England Patriots have thrown for 4,000 yards in a single-season.

Now, you must add one more to the list!

Drake Maye surpassed the 4,000-yard passing mark for the first time in his young NFL career. He joins Tom Brady (11 times) and Drew Bledsoe (2) as the only quarterbacks in franchise history to accomplish the feat.

Needing only 54 passing yards to reach the mark, it was expected that Maye wouldn't need long in his team's Week 17 game against the abysmal New York Jets. In fact, the former UNC football star made it happen on the team's second drive of the game, which, ironically enough, felt already out of reach.

What a half of football for Maye

The former Tar Heel passed for four touchdowns over the first half of play, setting his new career-high for a single-game. Maye and the Patriots went into the locker room up 35-3, a cushion that will likely have Maye on the sidelines for the majority of the second half.

Maye completed 17 of his 19 pass attempts for 229 yards and the four scores. He also did work with his legs, adding 22 yards on three carries to help drive the Patriots offense down the field.

Needless to say, the Jets defense had no answers for Maye in this one.

Let's settle this debate

Given what Drake Maye has done this year (especially considering the state of the franchise a year ago and where they are at this point), it's time to crown Maye as the NFL MVP.

Yes, Matthew Stafford has had a great year. Not taking anything away from him. However, the roster around Stafford is light years ahead of the Patriots roster around Maye, as Maye has elevated his team to insane levels.

Once the regular season comes to a close, the debate will carry on. Even though we're bias, it's clear that no one made more of an impact on their team than Drake Maye did this season.
