Sports media personalities get paid to voice their opinions.
While most are way overpaid, they still clog up TV space, providing some bold takes that they expect the public to take as the right opinion.
HOWEVER, dare an athlete voice his or her opinion, then opinions aren't allowed!
Let's fill you in: on a recent episode of ESPN's First Take, former NFL quarterback Cam Newton described the New England Patriots as "fools gold" due to their weaker schedule.
Of course, the media had to ask Maye, who has claimed in the past that Newton was his favorite player growing up, his take on the comment.
The former UNC football star simply fired back, putting together a quote that got Stephen A. Smith and Cam Newton in their feels!
“I don’t even know what show he’s on, Maye stated. " I think they get paid to make remarks and make certain comments. So, I just worry about what people in our organization think, and worry about we think and what my teammates think. People are going to have different opinions. I’m just going out there on Sunday and worrying about ourselves.”
Before we get into the clown circus that occurred on First Take on Thursday, let's take a moment to understand this: nothing Drake Maye said was wrong!
For a guy who is focused on his team and their future success, it's certain that Maye isn't locked into his television screen to watch this pathetic show every day.
Now, Smith responded by calling Maye a "liar," raving about how First Take has been the top-rated morning show on ESPN platforms for 13 consecutive years. He also went on to claim that Maye "didn't accomplish anything at North Carolina," and how "Cam Newton won a national championship and an MVP in the NFL.
Last time we checked, Maye was never forced to transfer due to off-the-field issues during his college career, and has plenty of time to match (or pass) Newton's career, one that will go down as mediocre at best.
While most of America is working hard during these hours, we feel bad for those who actually waste their time listening to this nonsense.
"[Drake Maye] is a liar…First Take is the number one morning show..don’t tell me you a athlete and you don’t know that. Don’t tell me you a athlete and you don’t know that Cam Newton is on this show. You lying." – Stephen A. Smith pic.twitter.com/kaxxptSMpY

It gets better!
Newton double down on his comments about the Patriots, a clear indication that he was annoyed by Maye's comments.
"Things can be taken out of context. Now, I did say the Patriots are fool’s gold, and I’m gonna stand on that." – Cam Newton responds to Drake Maye pic.twitter.com/xHRt5dvQCk

Smith went on a rant about how the media provides former athletes with platforms for job opportunities, stating that athletes shouldn't bring down fellow athletes. However, when it comes to washed-up retired players sitting on a set, all bets are off, as Newton was allowed to essentially laugh himself off the stage a few weeks ago when Maye was referred to as one of the best deep ball passers in the entire NFL.
Let's face it: the only thing worse than Newton's analysis is his wardrobe. Dude literally went on television trying to be Willy Wonka.
Here's a message for Cam Newton and Stephen A. Smith: if you can't take it, don't dish it. Maye simply responded that he wasn't focused on what the media had to say (the correct approach for any athlete). He can't help that you both took it completely out of context and got in your feelings, as your show continues to get worse by the day.
To add to that- I, myself, had no idea Cam Newton was on First Take. I have better things to do with my time during the day than listen to the nonsense that show is constantly spewing.
