Iconic. Historic. Legendary. INSANE!

All of the above words (and more) can be used to describe Dominic Pietramala's performance against UAlbany in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament for the UNC men's lacrosse team.

Dominic Pietramala rewrites the record books

The No. 3-seeded Tar Heels defeated UAlbany in blowout fashion, securing a 24-6 victory on Saturday afternoon at Dorrence Field. Pietramala played a major role in the victory, setting both UNC and NCAA records in the process.

Not only did Pietramala become North Carolina's career goals leader, he also broke the UNC single-game and NCAA Tournament's single-game goal records as well.

How many goals did he score, you ask? To give you a hint, you need both hands to count them!

Pietramala scored 10 goals in the win, needing just 16 shots to do so. He didn't slow down one bit after recording a hat trick in the first quarter of action, setting the UNC career record with his 129th goal at the 6:39 mark in the second quarter.

His UNC and NCAA Tournament single-game record breaking goal came in the fourth quarter, as the Tar Heels continued to pour it on until the final buzzer sounded.

When you think of historic performances, the one that Dominic Pietramala put together on Saturday afternoon is one that will be remembered for quite some time. It will serve as a very special day in Pietramala's lacrosse career, as he not only etched his name into the UNC record books, but found his way into NCAA history as well.

With the win, Pietramala and the UNC men's lacrosse team will play in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals next Saturday at James M. Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, New York, as they await the winner of Sunday night's contest between No. 6-seeded Syracuse and Yale.
