Did Caleb Wilson give UNC fans hope they didn't know existed on potential return?

So... are you saying there's a chance?

There's been plenty of chatter regarding this year's freshman class, a group who apparently loves to stir the pot.

BYU star AJ Dybantsa, potentially the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft class, made an eye-popping comment that he might end up returning to the college ranks for another season. Darryn Peterson, who doesn't seem at all interested in playing college basketball in the first place, followed it up with a teaser of his own.

Now, it's Caleb Wilson's turn.

Wilson makes a social media comment that is giving false hope

Following the news of his selection as a first-team All-ACC recipient, Wilson elected to stir the pot by commenting on the UNC basketball program's post regarding his accolade.

Wilson responded by saying, "run it back?" followed by a sad faced emoji.

Before you start to think that there's a chance he will return...

Wilson provides a glimmer of hope, but don't get too excited

Sure, Caleb Wilson loves playing at North Carolina and has truly embraced being a Tar Heel.

While he teases a potential "run it back" scenario, the sad face at the end of the message tells you all you need to know.

Caleb Wilson is heading to the NBA

Wilson hasn't openly stated it yet, but the writing is on the wall. The same could be said for Dybantsa and Peterson, both of whom will be joining Wilson among this year's NBA Draft class.

We wouldn't be surprised if deep down, Wilson wanted to return to North Carolina. Let's face it: he became the mayor of Chapel Hill in just a few short months, as the NIL opportunities and the chance to play on college basketball's biggest stage is always enticing for a competitor of his nature.

However, the financial implications of him returning to college could be extremely steep, as NIL funding won't come near what he would make in the NBA Draft (especially if he is a top-five selection as most people expect him to be).

Don't read too much into it

Sure, that comment might have given you false hope. Heck, we all want him to return to campus for another season, especially after he missed out on a good portion of the season due to injury.

While we all wish he could stay longer, unfortunately we all have to admit that the right thing for him to do is head to the pros. Even though his time at North Carolina was cut short because of the pair of hand/wrist injuries he suffered, he provided us all with a ton of memories and put together arguably the greatest season by a true freshman in program history.

He can tease a return all he wants, but ultimately, it's not going to happen.
