When one door closes, another one opens.
After signing with the San Francisco 49ers this offseason, former UNC football standout Chazz Surratt thought that he would be an integral part of his new team's defensive unit, especially considering his former head coach, Robert Saleh, is on the staff.
Well, that didn't work out as planned.
Surratt found himself among the players released as the 49ers trimmed their roster down to 53 players ahead of the 2025 season. This left the veteran linebacker searching for a new home, but fortunately, there were plenty of suitors.

Ultimately, Surratt elected to sign with the Seattle Seahawks, joining their 53-man roster. Now, the former Tar Heel will stay in the same division and will face the 49ers, a team he only spent a few months with, twice this upcoming season.
Safe to say that he will be more than ready for those meetings!
Surratt, was a former third-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in the 2021 NFL Draft. He began his college career at North Carolina as a quarterback before transitioning to linebacker. This move bode well for him, helping him land a spot in the NFL.
As a rookie, Surratt appeared in 9 games for the Vikings. He then spent each of the past three seasons with the New York Jets, appearing in 32 games with five starts. Last season, Surratt played in all 17 games with five starts, recording 28 total tackles.
A guy who can make an impact at linebacker and on special teams, Surratt now looks to make a name for himself with the Seahawks organization. He should be very motivated to get back on track after being snubbed by the 49ers ahead of the new NFL season.
