"Chapel Bill" has a nice ring to it!

It's official: Bill Belichick will be named the next head coach of the UNC football program. Although there have been mixed reports surfacing, Inside Carolina confirmed that Belichick will be the guy to lead the UNC football program moving forward.

While it feels weird to be typing that in 2024, this is now actually a reality. No one expected that the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach would venture into the college ranks at this point in his career, but here we are!

The UNC football program's head coach search went far and wide. It's been reported that the following candidates were at least in the discussion for the job: Matt Campbell (Iowa State), Jon Sumrall (Tulane), Jeff Monken (Army), Steve Wilks, Glenn Schumann (Georgia DC), and Freddie Kitchens, the current interim head coach of the UNC football program.

Ultimately, the program felt it was best to go with another older coach, this one coming to Chapel Hill with a legendary legacy that he's looking to continue building.

Now that the search is over, the process to set the roster moving forward can begin. While the Tar Heels are a little behind in terms of having a coach in place for the opening of the transfer portal, Belichick's reputation and NFL pedigree is one that should be very enticing for players who aspire to play in the pros.

Belichick will now follow in his father's footsteps (who was a former assistant for the UNC football program). Given his interest and the game plan he presented during his interviews, it seems as if Belichick has a plan in place to get the UNC football program to national prominence.

Now, let's see what he's able to accomplish in this new era of Carolina football.
