While it's still not ideal news, it's better than the worst-case scenario.

Denver Nuggets fans held their breaths as Cam Johnson laid on the court in some serious pain.

In the fourth quarter of the Nuggets game against the Dallas Mavericks, Johnson landed awkwardly on his leg, as you immediately thought the worst-case scenario just occurred.

However, the former UNC basketball star avoided serious injury, but is still going to miss some time.

The latest on Cam Johnson's injury

As per Shams Charania of ESPN, Johnson was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his right knee. The MRI that was performed revealed no structural damage or major injury, but he is still expected to miss some time.

Already ruled out for Christmas Day

Following the news, no one expected Johnson to be available when the Nuggets take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Christmas Day. This will be the first game Johnson will miss due to this injury, as we'll have to wait and see if a better timeline for his return gets revealed.

Bad timing for an injury

There's never a good time to get injured, but Johnson was playing some great basketball before this injury occurred.

Over his last 16 games, the former Tar Heel averaged 15 points and was lights-out shooting the basketball, knocking down 50.6% of his shots from the floor and 51.8% of his attempts from beyond-the-arc.

Needless to say, Johnson was performing just how the Nuggets hoped when they traded for him this offseason.

For the time being, Denver will have to navigate without Johnson, a veteran who impacts the game in a variety of ways. While his shooting has been his niche throughout his basketball career, Johnson has developed into an overall great basketball player, as his value is even showing more than it has in the past during his early stint with the Nuggets organization.
