"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."
The Caleb Wilson era is officially over in Chapel Hill, as he shared a social media post indicating that he will be entering the 2026 NBA Draft.
What a year it was
Wilson broke the news on his Instagram account by sharing a handful of pictures from his lone season as a Tar Heel. While some post long messages thanking people (which could still be coming from Wilson), the future top-five pick shared a short but sweet caption.

As a true freshman, Wilson established UNC freshman records for highest scoring average (19.8 points per game), most consecutive games to begin a career with 24 games in double figures, and 20-point games (17). He becomes the first UNC basketball player ever to lead the team in points, rebounds, and assists per game as a freshman.
By being named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press, Wilson became just the second Tar Heel ever to qualify for honored jersey status as a freshman.
The other is a guy you've probably heard a lot about: Tyler Hansbrough.

We got robbed
Two hand/wrist-related injuries robbed us of watching Wilson play for UNC down the stretch, as the five-star talent missed the final stretch of the regular season (including at Duke) as well as both the ACC and NCAA Tournaments.
When we look back at his time in Chapel Hill, we'll all remember the highlight reel plays he made, but we will always regret not being able to see him play in those big-time moments!
Thank you, Caleb
Caleb Wilson is the epitome of what you want from a "one-and-done" caliber player when you recruit them to your campus.
An elite talent on the court and an amazing person off it, Wilson has embraced every minute of being a Tar Heel, really soaking in the moment. While he would have loved to have not been sidelined, his energy and personality never wavered, as he was just as big of a supporter for his teammates when he was hurt as he was when he was able to contribute on it.
One word can describe Caleb Wilson: special. We were very lucky that he decided to call Chapel Hill his home, and didn't need much time to put himself among the legends that have worn the Carolina Blue uniform.
In the near future, his No. 8 jersey will take its rightful place in the Dean Smith Center rafters, where we'll all remember the incredible season he had as a Tar Heel.
