College basketball fans always try to find comparisons for their current team's players, especially when it comes to star players.
Freshman forward Caleb Wilson, one of the most intriguing players in the sport, has everyone talking about just how good he is at basketball. Now 9 games into his UNC basketball career, Wilson has taken Chapel Hill by storm, having six double-doubles and five 20-point outings to his name.
Some say Wilson is similar in style to Jonathan Isaac and Scottie Barnes, while others believe he is a carbon copy of Kevin Garnett. There are also those UNC basketball fans who think he comps well to Marvin Williams, another notable player who ended up being a one-and-done at North Carolina.
After defeating Georgetown on Sunday night, Ed Cooley, the head coach of the Hoyas, provided his own player comp for Caleb Wilson, and you'll be intrigued to hear it.
Caleb Wilson reminds Ed Cooley of an iconic Hall of Famer
Cooley raved about Wilson following his team's loss to the UNC basketball program. His player comparison is one that hasn't been thrown around much, but is one that definitely is eye-popping.
“I haven’t seen many players like him in 15 years of college basketball," Cooley said. "He’s a hell of a talent. I see him being an NBA All-Star. He reminds me of Tracy McGrady.”
Yes, Tracy McGrady, better known as "T-Mac."
An NBA Hall of Famer, McGrady was a seven-time All-Star and All-NBA selection, capturing two scoring titles in the process. His career lasted 16 seasons and was hampered by injuries, but he played at an elite level when he was on the court to earn him a prestigious spot in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
For those who had the privilege of getting to watch McGrady during his prime, you definitely understand just how big of a compliment that is from Cooley.
If you didn't get the opportunity to watch McGrady (or simply want to take a trip down memory lane), take a look at a highlight reel that captures some of his greatest moments on the basketball court.
After watching the video above, can you see some similarities between Wilson and McGrady? It's probably safe to say that you can see at least a little of McGrady/s game in Wilson.
