The UNC football program kicked off its 100th season at Kenan Stadium in style, defeating East Tennessee State 35-3 on Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill.
Bill Belichick's team did exactly what it was supposed to do against an FCS opponent. The Tar Heels put points on the board, continued their stellar defensive play, and put the game out of reach before a lightning delay halted the game for nearly an hour and 20 minutes. By the time the teams returned to the field, the game essentially felt over, it was just a matter of running the remaining 15 minutes off the clock.
When you are able to take care of business, it allows the coaching staff to mix and match, getting some guys in the game to help them gain experience. The snap count, provided by Pro Football Focus, goes to show just how many guys saw game action, an encouraging sign for a team that is full of youth across the board.

Overview
With Melkart Abou Jaoude sidelined due to injury, there were plenty of additional snaps to go around for others across the defensive line.
We also got our first look at Miles O'Neill, a transfer quarterback from Texas A&M who followed offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino to Chapel Hill. For a guy who is likely being groomed to be the starter next season, any opportunities to see game action will be helpful in that development process.
Along the offensive line, true freshman Cristian Alvarez was very impressive. He collected the highest pass blocking grade among the team's offensive lineman, showing his potential at the guard position moving forward.
