Darryn Peterson scored 22 points for the Kansas Jayhawks in their loss to North Carolina on Friday night.
While the scoring output alone looks impressive for a college freshman, it doesn't tell the tale of just how difficult it was for the five-star talent to even reach that scoring output.
Seth Trimble has developed a reputation of being a lockdown defender during his time with the UNC basketball program, and his impact on the defensive end on Friday night certainly didn't go unnoticed.
Following the game, Kansas head coach Bill Self said what every Tar Heel fan was thinking about the matchup between Peterson and Trimble:

“He blanketed Darryn.”
"He blanketed Darryn."
Wherever Peterson went on the court, Trimble was essentially as close as he could get to the highly-touted freshman. Sure, he got off 14 shots (8 of which he connected on), but they were not even close to being open-looks: he had to work for every single bucket he got.
The clip below will show you the difficulty of the shots that Peterson was able to make. Simply put: 99% of other players in the country can't even come close to knocking those down.
Who does Darryn Peterson's game remind you of? 🤔

While Trimble made life difficult for Peterson, the Jayhawks couldn't get any offensive rhythm going around him. In a good amount of cases, Trimble wouldn't let Peterson even touch the rock, forcing Kansas to rely on others to put the ball in the basket.
Fortunately for North Carolina, the rest of the team (minus Bryson Tiller, who knocked down four three pointers in the first half) struggled to do so.
Self said what everyone was thinking. While his star freshman put together a scoring output that will draw attention from the common fan checking in to see how he performed, the real ones who watched the game (whether you support UNC, Kansas, or just enjoy college basketball) saw first-hand how Seth Trimble's defensive effort played a huge role in the outcome of this game.
Regardless of who your top scoring threat is, Seth Trimble is more than willing to take on the role of locking them down, as he's proven on numerous occasions that he can make life extremely difficult for opponents' top offensive players as they attempt to get in a rhythm.
Darryn Peterson learned first-hand on Friday night what it feels like to have an elite and experienced defensive player essentially being attached to you at the hip for the entirety of a basketball game. Heck, Trimble might have even followed him into the locker room at the half-that's how good he was at staying with him all night long.
