Bill Belichick wastes no time replacing formerly committed wideout Jonathan Bibbs

Well, that didn't take long to materialize.

Fans of the UNC football program were likely shocked at the news that developed early on Thursday morning.

After receiving a commitment from former UL Monroe wide receiver Jonathan Bibbs a few days prior, North Carolina thought it had secured another pass catcher to add to its unit. However, that turned out to be the complete opposite, as Bibbs flipped his commitment from UNC to UCF.

Just a few hours later, the news seems to maybe make a little more sense, given that the Tar Heels have brought in another transfer portal wide receiver who will fill the void.

Mason Humphrey commits to North Carolina

Former Lehigh standout Mason Humphrey announced that he has committed to Bill Belichick and the UNC football program. The Georgia native will have one season of eligibility to work with.

More on Mason Humphrey

A 6-foot-4, 215-pounder, Humphrey was a two-year starter for the Mountain Hawks. In the 26 games he's played over the last two seasons, he recorded a total of 80 catches for 1237 yards and 9 scorers, serving as an important piece to Lehigh's offensive attack.

Now, Humphrey will head to Chapel Hill in hopes of using his play making ability to help the UNC football program put points on the board.

What does this mean for UNC?

North Carolina is back to having 11 transfer portal commitments, as Humphrey joins former Wisconsin wide receiver Trech Kekahuna among the program's transfer portal wide receiver additions. Given that Jordan Shipp is the lone key contributor from this positional group, you'd have to expect that both Humphrey and Kekahuna, both veteran pass catchers, will have a strong chance of earning significant playing time, as the hope is that the current depth chart, mixed with some key veterans and promising freshman, can help balance the team's passing attack.
