Bill Belichick's fiery reaction to the UNC upset over TCU should quiet the haters

It wasn't pretty. It was sloppy. It was a game that countless people thought UNC and Bill Belichick would get crushed in, but that wasn't the case. Nope, instead, the Tar Heels posted a stunning 15-10 upset in Dublin, and perhaps no one was more relieved/thrilled/ecstatic about things than Belichick - and rightfully so.

Late in the action, UNC was facing 4th-and-inches, with a chance to ice the game with a first down. Quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. went up to the line and managed to get TCU to jump offsides. Edwards and the entire Carolina offense were fired up, but when the ESPN cameras panned to Belichick, you saw what that moment meant to him. It locked in the W for the Heels, taking down TCU in a surprising upset not many saw coming, including loud-mouthed Paul Finebaum. Well, what do all the doubters have to say now?

Can anyone blame Belichick for being so happy in that moment? Hey, I'll be the first to admit I've called him out this offseason due to all the offseason drama that has followed the program. I'll own up to that, even stating multiple times that he wasn't the right hire for this job. Despite that, I, and many others, are eating some humble pie right now.

In a rematch with TCU from last season, the Tar Heels were able to get some revenge and start the new season off on the right foot. Again, it was far from perfect, and TCU had plenty of opportunities to record a win instead. Silly penalties came back to haunt Sonny Dykes, but that speaks to Belichick having his team more focused and preventing that for the most part.

The difference in this team from last year to today was quite eye-opening too. We don't want to bash on Gio Lopez or anything, but the upgrade to Edwards was pretty apparent. On the evening (Ireland local time), Edwards completed 16-of-28 passes for 232 yards and no touchdowns, and more importantly, no turnovers.

Yes, he missed some throws, but let's not forget that the rain impacted the passing game on both sides. Then, when Belichick needed his new starting quarterback to step up and make some key throws, he did just that. It wasn't a performance to toss him into the Heisman conversation, but it was more than enough to help UNC come out on top, which is the most important thing.

This was easily Belichick's biggest win for the Heels since making the move to Chapel Hill, and it will give the program some needed momentum moving forward. That passion from Belichick in the clip above also reminds us just how much he cares about this program, and while it's something everyone isn't used to, let's hope more of the same is on the way in the coming weeks as well. People will continue to bash Belichick, but for now, it's time to give the man his flowers for stunning the college football world in Week 0.
