There's been a ton of mystery surrounding the UNC football program's depth chart leading up to the start of the Bill Belichick era.
While there's still plenty of questions surrounding how the depth chart will play out, Belichick provided some major news regarding his quarterback competition:
Gio Lopez has been named the UNC football program's starting quarterback.

Arriving at North Carolina following spring practices, Lopez transferred in from South Alabama with a lot of hype surrounding him. A dual-threat quarterback, Lopez threw for 18 touchdowns a season ago, adding another seven with his legs, serving as a tough matchup for opposing defenses.
In need of some depth at the quarterback spot, Belichick and the Tar Heels identified Lopez as a guy who can make an impact in Chapel Hill right away, and quite frankly, the early results have shown that he's ready for the challenge.
The writing was on the wall, especially after Lopez served as a representative at the annual ACC Kickoff Event. However, the competition, which was between Lopez and Max Johnson, was one that appeared to be brewing leading up to Monday night's contest.
In the end, Lopez has secured the job, as most UNC football fans expected this to be the likely outcome.
Now, we can write in Lopez as QB1, but knowing Belichick, that's probably the only tidbit on the depth chart that he's going to give TCU before the big opening game on Monday night!
