Bill Belichick and UNC make another big splash on the 2027 recruiting trail

The UNC football program continues to load up in the secondary, securing another safety commit from the Class of 2027.

Chuck Roberts becomes the latest to pledge to the Tar Heels, as the Mission Hills, California native made his announcement with Rivals on Monday afternoon, choosing North Carolina over his other finalists: Florida, Miami, Missouri, Oregon, Tennessee, and Washington. He becomes the third player from the Class of 2027 to commit to Bill Belichick and the UNC football program.

Who is Chuck Roberts?

Chuck Roberts is a 6-foot, 180-pound safety who attends high school at IMG Academy. He currently ranks as the No. 416-ranked player nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings, as the three-star product is regarded as the No. 37-ranked safety in his recruiting class.

After an insane freshman season of high school football at Bishop Alemany in Mission Hills, California, Roberts Jr. took his talents to IMG Academy to challenge himself further while earning more national attention. While his numbers at IMG aren't close to what they were in his freshman season at Bishop Alemany, there's no doubt that Roberts Jr. has the skill set to be an elite safety at the next level.

Playing alongside a loaded roster at IMG Academy, Roberts Jr. has stood out on the defensive side of the football, especially in pass coverage. During the 2025 season, Roberts Jr. allowed just three total catches while in coverage, showing what he's capable of doing as an anchor among the secondary unit.

It's important to note that Roberts has a strong connection with Billy Miller, the Special Teams Assistant at North Carolina, who previously coached at IMG Academy. The Tar Heels extended an offer to him at the start of the fall, which led Roberts to take a game-day visit to see North Carolina compete against Stanford in early November.
