Angelo Brizzi has experienced college basketball from several different perspectives.

His career has taken him through multiple programs, changing roles, and the work required to establish himself in a new environment. Now, he arrives in Chapel Hill with an opportunity to put that experience to use for Michael Malone.

He may not need the largest role in the backcourt to provide something valuable for this year's squad.

What you need to know about Angelo Brizzi

Class: Graduate student
Position: Guard
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 200 pounds
Hometown: Warrenton, Virginia
High school: Highland
Previous school: Buffalo

Brizzi averaged a career-high 14.5 points at Buffalo last season and started all 32 games. He previously played at Villanova, Davidson, and Longwood. UNC announced his addition, and he already has 105 career appearances and 69 starts on his résumé.

What Angelo Brizzi brings to UNC

Brizzi gives Carolina a veteran guard who has handled meaningful offensive responsibility.

At Buffalo, he scored at least 20 points eight times and made eight three-pointers in a game against South Alabama. Those performances show the scoring potential UNC can draw upon, even if his opportunities look different in Chapel Hill.

The practical value could be helping the offense remain organized when Malone turns to his bench. Making an open shot, moving the ball promptly, and recognizing when a possession needs to settle would all help.

The biggest question surrounding Angelo Brizzi

How effectively can Brizzi adjust from a featured role to a more selective one?

A crowded backcourt may not offer the same volume of shots or minutes he received at Buffalo. Producing with fewer touches requires patience, preparation, and the ability to spot openings quickly.

He’ll also need to show that his defensive execution holds up against ACC opponents.

What does a successful season look like for Angelo Brizzi?

Success would mean becoming a dependable veteran option rather than matching his previous scoring average.

Useful bench minutes, timely perimeter shooting, and sound decisions would give Malone reasons to call upon him. His responsibilities could vary, making readiness especially important.

The bottom line

Brizzi’s experience gives him a useful starting point. Earning trust in this particular backcourt will determine the rest.

If he can help UNC maintain its execution as the lineup changes, his value could extend well beyond the number of shots he takes.
