The UNC basketball program did what it was supposed to do on Friday night.
Behind a 21-point, 13-rebound double-double effort from Caleb Wilson, the Tar Heels cruised to victory over NC Central to improve to 4-0 on the early season.
The first half was rather sluggish, as North Carolina coughed the basketball up 10 times. Even though it was sloppy, the Tar Heels still found a way to take a 15-point lead into the break, but ultimately ran the visiting Eagles out of the gym in the second half.
After scoring just 39 points in the first half, the UNC basketball program turned it up a notch, scoring 58 points over the final 20 minutes of action.
Unfortunately, the Tar Heels fell just short of giving the home crowd biscuits, but hey, two consecutive missed free throws gave the fans some CRUMBL cookies!
Wilson and Henri Veesaar both put up double-double outings in the victory, while Luka Bogavac added 13 points on an efficient scoring night. Zayden High scored a career-high 11 points off the bench, while freshman Derek Dixon knocked down a trio of triples to contribute 9 total points.
The second half was much better for the UNC basketball program on all facets of the game. After the 10-turnover first half, the Tar Heels didn't cough up the basketball once during the final 20 minutes of action, as fans got to see the entire roster get some action during this blowout victory.
Sure, NC Central isn't the best team North Carolina will face all season, but you take the wins as they come and look to build off them in the long run. This game provided a lot of positives for North Carolina, especially considering how the entire roster saw playing time.
With a team of essentially all newcomers, that in-game experience is very valuable, regardless of how long the players see the floor.
Now, the 4-0 Tar Heels will have the weekend off. They will host Navy on Tuesday night to continue non-conference action at the Dean Smith Center.
