Alyssa Ustby named the Most Valuable Player of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament
MVP! MVP! MVP!
Following three outstanding performances, UNC women's basketball star was named the Most Valuable Player of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. Ustby, along with teammate Trayanna Crisp, earned spots on the all-tournament team.
Ustby started the tournament by recording her first double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Ball State. The fifth-year forward was even better in the semi-finals against Villanova, putting together a 14-point, 14-rebound effort.
In the finals against Indiana, Ustby did a little bit of everything, scoring 9 points while recording 13 rebounds, five assists and a steal in just 25 minutes of action.
During the tournament, Ustby recorded her 1,000th career rebound, becoming just the eighth active player to have 1,000 career points and 1,000 rebounds. She added to her already impressive resume by scoring her 1,500 point in the win over the Hoosiers on Monday afternoon.
Overall, it was a very strong performance from the UNC women's basketball program this weekend, as the Tar Heels took home the Battle 4 Atlantis title. As they roll deeper into non-conference action, these last three days are definitely a positive momentum builder, especially for Ustby. After struggling a bit through the team's first four games, the Tar Heels' leader is back in rare form, ready to lead her team to plenty more victories this season.
