Alexandros Samodurov has a no-brainer reason to play for UNC and Michael Malone

Will he officially commit soon?

Another day has passed, but everyone is still on Alexandros Samodurov watch. The Greek big man has been rumored to be UNC-bound to play for Michael Malone, but it's important to remember that nothing has been finalized there and he's not going to be on the roster for next season... yet.

However, there's a lot of smoke right now and he's no question on commit watch. Could a final decision and announcement be on the way? That's what plenty of people are expecting, though you never know if a surprise team will jump in late to try and steal him away from the Tar Heels.

UNC among the blue bloods tied to a massive new college hoops event

With that said, there's simply no question that Malone and UNC can help him take his game to the next level and potentially even help him become a first-round pick down the line. That's what Andrew Jones and David Sisk discussed on their most recent Heel Report Podcast, hyping up Sean May's potential impact too. We 100 percent agree with what Jones had to say below:

“A year at North Carolina, a year with Sean May teaching him how to use his hips - teach him that footwork, how to go up straight, own the space in the late, never know,” Andrew Jones said on Samodurov potentially being a first-round pick next season. “I just think that that’s interesting what he could become, especially since he’s 21. (Being) 21-22, playing ball here, learning under Sean and having Malone as the head coach, it’d be interesting to see, gauge if he can work himself into anything (in the first round) as well.”

UNC fans continue to be on commit watch for center Alexandros Samodurov

We all know how much of a Chapel Hill legend May is. Not only did he help the Tar Heels win a national title under Roy Williams, but he's been a fantastic assistant coach in recent years. Who better to help develop an overseas big man than May, who terrorized opposing players in the paint back during his playing days.

It's not only Samodurov who could benefit from playing for Malone and May, as some major development will also be needed for 5-star FC Barcelona playmaker Sayon Keita, who committed to play his college ball in the ACC not long ago.

With Henri Veesaar off to the NBA next season, with hopes of being a first-round pick, having Keita and Samodurov get the bulk of the work at the five is exactly what's needed for Malone and Co. Let's not jump the gun here, though, as once again, Samodurov is not UNC-bound just yet.

Things of course are trending in that direction and the staff appears to be quite confident that he'll be in Carolina blue next season. If for whatever reason Samodurov is having some second thoughts, he can have some confidence in knowing the coaches in Chapel Hill will help take his game to new heights, with May obviously being ready to do whatever he can to make his NBA dreams come true.
