You know we're getting closer to college basketball season when schedule tidbits start to be released!
On Wednesday, the Atlantic Coast Conference revealed the matchups for each program for the 2025-2026 college basketball season. This reveals not only who each ACC school will play in a home-and-home series, but also the lone team they won't take the floor against this season.
While dates and times are still to be determined, here's your first look at how the UNC basketball program's ACC matchups for next season shape out.
Home-and-Home
Duke
Syracuse
Home
Pittsburgh
Florida State
Clemson
Wake Forest
Virginia Tech
Louisville
Notre Dame
Away
California
Stanford
SMU
Miami
Georgia Tech
NC State
Virginia
While we already knew that Duke was one of the Tar Heels' home-and-home series, it was surprising to see Syracuse as the other. With this news, it confirms that NC State will not travel to Chapel Hill for a year this season, as you have to back a very, very long time for the last time this has occurred (1919).
After hosting the trio of new ACC teams last season, North Carolina will return the favor and head out west this season. It's been quite a while since the Tar Heels played these schools at their respective gyms, most recently making a trip to Stanford back in November 2017.
With the new ACC college basketball scheduling, there will be one team that each program won't play against per season. In 2025-2026, that program for North Carolina is Boston College, as this will change on a yearly basis.
It makes you think: will there be a year in which the Tar Heels and Wolfpack don't play at all given this format?
We're still a few months away from opening tip-off, but the anticipation for the 2025-2026 season has truly begun. Now, at least we know which ACC opponents will be on the UNC basketball program's slate this season, as fans can start planning for trips to the Dean Dome (or even to hit the road) to see the boys in Carolina Blue take the floor.
