Starting college at the University of North Carolina is exciting enough for incoming students. Imagine the hype once those students learned of who will serve as the keynote speaker at the New Student Convocation!
None other than arguably the greatest UNC basketball player of all-time: Mr. Tyler Hansbrough.

Soccer star Mia Hamm was graduation speaker in May.
Hansbrough will address the crowd at the Dean Smith Center on August 17, an event scheduled to last approximately one hour. This event will be part of the nightly festivities marking the start of the new academic year.
In a quote featured in the official press release regarding the announcement, Hansbrough expressed his excitement for this special opportunity:
"I thoroughly enjoyed my four years at Carolina as a student and am honored to help the chancellor and university kick off a new year by speaking at Convocation. The start of another school year is always an exciting time, especially for all the new students. It should be fun to once again spend time with a group of enthusiastic students at the Smith Center, a place where I shared many great memories with UNC fans."
Hansbrough put together a historical career at the University of North Carolina, as he still remains the only player in ACC history to earn four first-team All-America nods along with four All-ACC individual honors. His 2,872 career points is a UNC basketball record that will be extremely difficult to surpass, especially with how the current state of college athletics doesn't feature many players who last a full four seasons with one particular program.
If there's anyone who can speak on how to make the most of their time at North Carolina, it would certainly be Hansbrough. Now, he'll get the opportunity to extend some wisdom onto the new wave of Tar Heels as they embark on their own collegiate journey, a moment that will be a highlight for them for many years to come.
