Rising junior LJ Smith, one of the top-ranked players in the Class of 2027, is starting to take a closer look at some of the programs that interest him.

One of those programs resides in Chapel Hill.

The UNC basketball program extended an offer to him on June 22, during a period when several other universities were also making offers. Just a few short weeks later, Smith, a 6-foot-5 combo guard who recently transferred to Oak Hill Academy ahead of his junior season, has scheduled an unofficial visit to North Carolina.

Multiple reports announced the initial news, as Smith also confirmed to us that his unofficial visit to Chapel Hill will take place on October 4.

Smith burst onto the scene as a sophomore at Lincolnton High School in North Carolina. He scored 935 points, a new North Carolina state record and the most points ever scored by a sophomore in a single-season. Needless to say, this dude can flat-out score the basketball, which is part of the reason why he continues to rise up the recruiting rankings and is now considered a top-10 ranked prospect in his class by SC Next.

The UNC basketball program has had its eye on this in-state talent for quite some time, and that won't change now that he's continuing his high school basketball career in another state. North Carolina's goal is to bring him back to his home state to play out his college basketball career, and it's safe to say that the fan base, who already is very fond of him, would love to see him wearing Carolina Blue in a few years.

Even though the Class of 2026 is currently at the forefront of recruiting focus, programs like the UNC basketball program are still working extremely hard to make a strong impression on Class of 2027 talents that they've identified as priority targets.
