Bill Belichick and the UNC football program are going to be very busy as they ring in the new year.
There will be tons of recruiting news, especially with regard to the transfer portal, that will surface from Chapel Hill, as some of the top available players are making their way to campus for an official visit.
One of those players is Chattanooga wide receiver Javin Whatley, who is expected to arrive on campus this weekend (according to Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz of 247Sports).
While his numbers took a dip during his junior season, Whatley was still very productive for the Mocs. In total, the 5-foot-10, 167-pound wideout has recorded 140 catches for 2,125 yards and 18 touchdowns over his three previous college seasons.
As a sophomore in 2023, Whatley fell just short of the 1,000 yard receiving mark, finishing with 977 yards. While scoring 9 touchdowns was an impressive feat, his yards per catch was simply insane, as he averaged 17.8 yards per reception.
That's video game-like numbers!
A player who can make things happen with the ball in his hands, Whatley would add an element to the UNC football program's offense. With leading receiver JJ Jones, along with tight ends John Copenhaver and Bryson Nesbit, set to depart North Carolina, the Tar Heels could benefit from adding some wide receiver depth, especially some that come with prior collegiate experience.
Be ready to keep up with the UNC football news over the next month, as there should be a lot to talk about as the Tar Heels continue to closely examine the transfer portal to see if there are any players that can help this team in 2025 and beyond.
