A splash OC target is available for UNC football but Bill Belichick must stay away

This would be an absolute horrible idea for Bill Belichick and the UNC football program.

Let's face it: the UNC football program is likely to move on from offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens this offseason.

The lone holdover from Mack Brown's staff, Kitchens has disappointed in terms of leading the Tar Heels offensive attack, a unit that has been one of the worst in the country all season long.

Tar Heel fans are already dreaming of who could become the team's next offensive coordinator, and quite the name became available on Sunday evening.

However, the UNC football program would be wise to stay far, far away from this individual.

Chip Kelly is looking for a new home

Following the Las Vegas Raiders loss to the Cleveland Browns, the organization elected to relieve Kelly of his duties as the team's offensive coordinator. This comes just 11 games into his time with the franchise and just months after the Raiders made him the highest-paid coordinator in the sport with a $6 million contract per season.

Holding a 2-9 record, the Raiders' offense has been among the league's worst. Under Kelly's direction, Las Vegas is tied for last in the NFL in points per game (15.0), 30th in total yards per game (268.9), 31st in rushing per game (79.5 yards), 30th in offensive EPA (minus-77.8), and 28th in red zone efficiency (48.1%). The Raiders have scored fewer than 10 points in four games -- the most in the NFL.

Why he might be an enticing option

Let's remember: Kelly served as the Ohio State Buckeyes' offensive coordinator a season ago, one that resulted in a national championship. The now 61-year-old has had plenty of success at the college level, as his fast-paced schemes have led to high-scoring offenses during his career.

Generally, you can't discredit what he's done at the college ranks.

Why North Carolina must stay far away

Sure, the idea might sound like a fun one, but this is something the Tar Heels definitely don't need to add to their plate.

The UNC football program needs stability, something that Kelly has struggled to find throughout his career. North Carolina should not serve as a rebound for Kelly as he aims to get his stock back up so he can pursue other opportunities elsewhere.

Thanks, but no thanks.
