A prized UNC football commit makes a decision on his future plans
When Mack Brown was relieved of his duties as the UNC football program's head coach, one of the biggest concerns was the future status of some notable commits.
The biggest worry surrounded four-star quarterback Bryce Baker, one of the most talented players in the Class of 2025. Baker elected to not sign on Early Signing Day as he flirted with other options, most notably Penn State, but after having the chance to talk to new head coach Bill Belichick, Baker has decided on his future plans.
Fortunately, the original plan remains the same: he's heading to Chapel Hill.
Baker commented on his decision in an interview with On3 Sports:
“I just feel like with Belichick coming in they can provide that next-level development I didn’t have the opportunity to have with other options I was looking at. Belichick coming from the NFL and the first-hand experience he has for what it takes to be the best.
I trust in his development and interest to get me where I want to be.”
This is major news for the UNC football program, as Belichick gets off to a tremendous start on the recruiting trail. Being able to lock-in Baker is a huge step in the right direction as the Tar Heels look to build the roster for the 2025 season and beyond.
Baker will sign with the UNC football program on Wednesday and is expected to enroll at the university in January. This will give him extra time to settle in and get used to the college life while also preparing him to compete for the starting quarterback job right out of the gate.
Now that one of the biggest questions is answered, it's now time for the UNC football program to shift its focus to the transfer portal to add more valuable talent to surround Baker with.
