The St. Louis Cardinals are a bunch of cowards!

Michael Busch was in the midst of a career day on Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The former UNC baseball star was having an absolute field day at the plate, crushing two home runs while adding a double and triple to his stat line.

With three extra base hits already to his name, Busch roped an RBI triple in the bottom half of the seventh inning, making him just a single shy of the cycle.

Busch would step up to the plate in the bottom half of the eighth inning with a chance to make history, but the St. Louis Cardinals had other cowardly plans.

Manager Oliver Marmol made the call to intentionally walk Busch with two outs in the inning. This move came with his team down four runs in a situation in which they have already been eliminated from postseason contention.

When asked about the decision to intentionally walk the former Tar Heel, Marmol kept it short:

"I'm not here for anybody's amusement. I'm trying to win a game."

Considering his team is set to claim a fourth place finish in the NL Central with a below .500 winning percentage, maybe Marmol should've tried this concept much earlier in the season!

While the move is a cowardly one, for sure, it shouldn't take away from the insane performance that Michael Busch put together. He's in the midst of having one of the best single seasons for a Chicago Cubs first basemen, playing a major role in his team's success as they gear up for October baseball.

Fortunately, Busch will have a few more at-bats to work with during postseason play. Marmol and the petty Cardinals will be watching from home.
