While plenty of names have been mentioned in the UNC Football head coach search, the university should avoid these three potential candidates.

Dan Mullen

On the list of "head coaching hires that I would absolutely hate," Dan Mullen tops the list.

There's a reason why Mullen has been working as a television analyst since 2021. While there is speculation he could be interested in the Tar Heels gig, it doesn't make sense to pull another coach off the television analyst table.

Mullen did some great things at Mississippi State and followed it with two very good seasons at Florida to begin his tenure with the Gators. However, his time at Florida quickly soured, and after two underwhelming seasons, Mullen was fired, leading him into the broadcasting booth.

Yes, I would prefer to hire a head coach with prior head coaching experience, but Mullen is not my top choice by any means.

In fact, I wouldn't even consider him for the gig.
