The UNC football program has lost another key contributor on the defensive side of the ball, as Myles Murphy is NFL Draft bound.

First, Cedric Gray announced that he will enter this year’s NFL Draft.

Shortly after, Myles Murphy followed along with the trend.

The UNC football program’s defensive lineman announced on social media that he intends to go pro. Unlike Gray, Murphy decided to play in North Carolina’s bowl game, the upcoming Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

Murphy became the third UNC football player to declare for this year’s NFL Draft. Devontez ‘Tez’ Walker was the first, followed by Gray and shortly after Murphy, as Drake Maye’s decision should be coming in the near future as well.

Over his four seasons in Chapel Hill, Murphy has developed into a steady presence on the Tar Heels defensive line. In his career, Murphy recorded 98 tackles, seven sacks, and four pass deflections, as the Greensboro, North Carolina native was very much involved in the action when he was on the field.

Murphy had one season of college eligibility remaining but has elected to go pro instead. For someone with NFL aspirations, staying an extra season likely would’ve hurt his stock, as this may be the best opportunity for him to test what he’s capable of doing on Sundays.

The UNC football program has had a lot of departures since the regular season came to a close, as next year’s team will look very different. The losses of both Gray and Murphy are notable ones, as North Carolina will have to replace the production that they’ve steadily contributed over the last four seasons.
