UNC Football: Drake Maye declares for the NFL Draft
The UNC football program’s star quarterback confirmed on Monday night that his time in Chapel Hill has officially come to a close.
We’ve seen the last of Drake Maye in a UNC football uniform.
In what shouldn’t surprise anyone, Maye announced on social media that he will declare for the 2024 NFL Draft. He also opted out of the UNC football program’s upcoming bowl game.
Maye ends his time in Chapel Hill as arguably the best quarterback to ever put on the Carolina uniform. Over his two seasons as the program’s starter, Maye put together a ton of success while solidifying himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
The Huntersville, North Carolina native finishes his UNC football career with 8,018 passing yards, 1,209 rushing yards, and 79 total touchdowns. The UNC football program didn’t reach the goals they set out for during the Drake Maye era, but still, not many players in college football have made the impact that Maye has made in Chapel Hill.
In contention to potentially be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the time is now for Maye to take on the NFL. Although we all would’ve loved to have had him back for one more season, we knew coming into the season that this was very likely his last as a Tar Heel.
Needless to say, whoever drafts Drake Maye is going to be one very lucky NFL franchise.
Best of luck to one of the best players in UNC football history as he begins his professional journey in the National Football League.
