Mack Brown and the UNC football program are expected to lose yet another running back in the transfer portal this offseason.

The writing has been on the wall, but it now seems like it will be happening for sure:

George Pettaway is planning on entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Grant Grubbs of On3 was the first to report the news, as Pettaway would become the second running back from the UNC football program to enter his name into the portal.

Since arriving in Chapel Hill prior to the start of the 2022 season, George Pettaway hasn’t found a way to be a consistent contributor on the offensive side of the ball.

As a freshman, Pettaway appeared in 11 games, recording 20 carries for 93 yards and two touchdowns. With veteran British Brooks back and the emergence of classmate Omarion Hampton, Pettaway has seen even less playing time this year, as he has just one reception on the season.

During training camp, the UNC football program had Pettaway take reps at the wide receiver position. However, that didn’t translate to playing time, as Pettaway elected to redshirt for the 2023 season, a move to maintain his eligibility and re-evaluate his options once the season came to a close.

It has been a busy week for the UNC football program, as quite a few Tar Heels have announced their intentions to leave the program. To keep up with all the latest news regarding the UNC football program’s roster, click the link below to see all the latest updates.
