UNC Basketball: One moves up, one moves down in latest AP Poll
The AP Top 25 Polls have been released, as the UNC basketball programs are heading in different directions in the latest rankings.
A week ago, both UNC basketball programs dropped in the AP Top 25 polls, even though both teams went unbeaten during their respective weekly action.
This week, one Tar Heels basketball team moved up, while the other took a slight dip in the rankings.
Let’s start with Hubert Davis and the UNC men’s basketball program, who were among the highest risers in the latest AP Top 25 poll.
North Carolina moved up into the top 15, as they jumped six spots to secure the No. 14 ranking heading into the Battle 4 Atlantis.
Although Courtney Banghart and the UNC women’s basketball program are sitting with a 4-0 record heading into this week’s Gulf Coast Showcase, the Tar Heels found themselves dropping for a second consecutive week.
The Tar Heels came in at No. 18, as four ACC programs currently rank ahead of them. Although the UNC women’s basketball program is unbeaten, their strength of schedule early on seems to be hurting them in the polls.
The good thing for the Tar Heels is this: there are two potential Top 25 matchups this week ahead, as they may end up matching up against Kansas State (No. 16) and Iowa (No. 5). Win against those programs, and you’ll move up the rankings rather quickly.
