No. 4: George Pettaway, sophomore

Another running back impacted by the emergence of Omarion Hampton, fellow sophomore George Pettaway seems to be on his way out of Chapel Hill as well.

North Carolina tried to utilize him as a slot receiver, which showed that he not only slid down the running back depth chart but that the program still wanted to find ways to utilize his skillset. Unfortunately, that never really panned out (at least from what we saw), as Pettaway was essentially serving as a kick returner before announcing his intentions to redshirt.

Now, Pettaway could come into spring practices and see where he fits in the Tar Heels backfield: there’s still a chance he could form a formidable 1-2 punch with Hampton. However, Pettaway is a candidate to at least weigh his options in the transfer portal, as similar to Green, playing time likely will be the factor in this case.
