The Tar Heels were one of three ACC programs to make the Final Four, as they matched up with Virginia for the chance to compete for another title. North Carolina got on the board courtesy of a Ryleigh Heck goal and never looked back, securing a 2-0 victory on their home field on Friday afternoon.

While Heck’s goal gave the Tar Heels the lead, it was the goal from sophomore Sietske Brüning on a penalty corner that essentially put the game out of reach.

It’s been quite the season for first-year head coach Erin Matson, as she’s made the transition from playing to coaching look easy. Of course, Matson, and the Tar Heels, aren’t satisfied with a title game appearance, they want to win the whole thing to cap off another tremendous season in Chapel Hill.
The UNC field hockey team will play for the NCAA title on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 PM EST, as they currently await the winner of this afternoon’s matchup between Duke and Northwestern.
