In front of a special crowd of attendees, the UNC women’s basketball program found a way to secure a double-digit victory over Hampton.

When Courtney Banghart took over as the head coach of the UNC women’s basketball program, one of the things she wanted to accomplish was to have her team be more involved with the local community.

On Wednesday, the tradition that Banghart has built continued as the UNC women’s basketball program hosted its annual Field Trip Day.

In front of 1,500 students from the Chapel Hill area, North Carolina defeated HBCU opponent Hampton. It wasn’t the program’s strongest effort by any means, but a 30-point victory is still a 30-point victory regardless.

Hampton struggled mightily with turnovers, as they coughed the basketball up 29 times over the 40 minutes of action. No Hampton players scored in double-figures, as Aisha Dabo led the way with seven points.

It wasn’t North Carolina’s best shooting performance, as the Tar Heels knocked down just 32.7 percent of their shot attempts (including 31.8 percent from three-point range), but every Tar Heel that saw five or minutes of action scored in this contest.

The UNC women’s basketball program had three players in double-figures, led by Deja Kelly’s 12 points. Paulina Paris (11 points) and Maria Gakdeng (10 points) were the other Tar Heels that scored ten or more points.

If you’re Banghart, you have to be pleased with the team’s passing effort, as the Tar Heels finished with 14 assists on 18 total baskets. To add to that, five players had two or more assists, which goes to show how effective the ball movement was.

The UNC women’s basketball program will have one more home non-conference game on Saturday afternoon before they head to Florida for the Gulf Coast Showcase during Thanksgiving weekend. North Carolina will host Elon on Saturday afternoon at Carmichael Arena for a 3:00 PM EST tip-off.
