The former UNC basketball standout officially made his NBA debut for the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night against the Washington Wizards.

The wait is finally over, as former UNC basketball standout Leaky Black has made his official NBA debut.

Black, who is currently on a two-way contract with the Charlotte Hornets, checked into the game with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Although the game was out of reach, it was a monumental moment for the former Tar Heel, as he recorded an assist along with a block in his regular-season debut.

A native of Concord, N.C., Black appeared in a UNC basketball record 155 games (130 starts) over his five seasons with the program. He was able to spend another season in Chapel Hill due to the COVID-year that was granted to student-athletes, as he finished his time as a Tar Heel averaging 5.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.

Black became known as a defensive wizard, as he was an ACC All-Defense team selection each of the last two seasons. His versatility and defensive ability helped get him to this point, as he’ll look to play many more minutes for the Charlotte Hornets organization in the near future.

The good thing about his contract is the ability for him to play in the G-League as well. Even if he doesn’t see the floor much for the Hornets early on, he’ll have an opportunity to work on his game while playing for the Greensboro Swarm.

This is a major moment in the basketball career of Leaky Black, as he has worked tremendously hard to get to this point.
