Will the UNC football program’s star quarterback participate in “Senior Day,” or does he have other plans regarding his future?

The UNC football program is preparing for its final home game of the 2023 regular season, as they’ll host Duke in an important rivalry matchup.

Heading into Saturday night’s contest, one of the biggest storylines is the Tar Heels annual “Senior Day,” as fans of the program are wondering whether star quarterback Drake Maye plans on participating.

Well, Maye provided the answer while speaking to the media on Tuesday morning.

Citing that “Senior Day” should be for the seniors, Maye said he hasn’t made a decision on his future yet, as he plans on not participating in the festivities.

Okay, before everyone gets their hopes up, it’s still very unlikely that Maye will return to Chapel Hill for another season.

However, if it is definite that he is planning on entering the NFL Draft, you’d have to think that Mack Brown would strongly encourage Maye to participate in “Senior Day” to get the ovation from the crowd that he truly deserves.

The opportunity to be a top-five NFL Draft pick and earn a ton of money is likely too much to pass up on (as Mack Brown has indicated while talking about Maye’s future), but this still is an interesting storyline to keep an eye on. For those fans that still have hope he will return, this has to add to their optimism just a bit.

Regardless of whether or not he participates in “Senior Day,” UNC football fans should enjoy watching him compete at Kenan Stadium on Saturday night, as it still is likely that this will be the last time he does so as a Tar Heel.
