The magical year for former UNC baseball star Zac Gallen continues, as he is a finalist for the National League CY Young Award.

What a year it’s been for former UNC baseball star Zac Gallen!

From starting the All-Star Game to getting the ball in Game One of the World Series, Gallen has made the “Jordan Year” a very memorable one.

In honor of what he accomplished this season, Gallen has been named a finalist for the National League Cy Young Award.

The former Diamond Heel finished the regular season with a 17-9 record with a 3.47 ERA. He played an integral role in not only leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to the playoffs but helped bring them to the franchise’s first World Series appearance since 2001.

Gallen is one of three finalists for the award, as Blake Snell of the San Diego Padres and Logan Webb of the San Francisco Giants are the other remaining contenders. Snell and Webb had tremendous seasons of their own, but Gallen has a strong case to take home the award.

Regardless of whether he wins the award or not, Gallen is guaranteed to be the highest finish by a Diamond Heels pitcher in any Cy Young Award voting, surpassing Matt Harvey’s fourth-place finish in 2013.

The official announcement of the winner of the National League Cy Young Award will come on Wednesday, November 15. Fans can watch the broadcast on MLB Network starting at 6:00 PM EST.
