No. 1: This team is a turnover machine!

The UNC basketball program had plenty of sloppy moments on Monday night, as they turned the basketball over 11 total times in the win.

Of those 11 turnovers, six came from the Tar Heels’ best ballhandlers: RJ Davis, Harrison Ingram, and Elliot Cadeau.

Quite a few Tar Heels fans were upset with the sloppiness, and it’s understandable. No one wants to see their team give the other team free possessions.

However, there are a few things to consider here.

-For starters, 10 different Tar Heels saw a good amount of minutes. Of those 10 guys, six are true newcomers, which shows that this unit hasn’t been on the court in real game action together much.

-To add to that, Hubert Davis was subbing guys in and out at a consistent rate, so there wasn’t really much time for the five on the court to get into a groove.

-Additionally, when you aspire to play fast-paced basketball, turnovers are going to happen. Whether it’s one too many passes or trying to force passes in on a fast break, these are things that can show up throughout a ball game.

Just because these struggles occurred on Monday night doesn’t mean this group is a turnover machine!

Now, if this is a month from now and the problem persists, then we all can be concerned. For now, allow this group time to settle in, as I expect them to protect the basketball better with more experience together.
