A letter to the UNC basketball team ahead of the 2023-2024 season
Ahead of the UNC basketball program’s season opener, Site Expert Nick Delahanty wrote a letter to the new-look Tar Heels team.
To the 2023-2024 UNC basketball team,
It’s finally here: the start of the 2023-2024 college basketball season.
Not going to lie- it’s been a very long 239 days since we found out last year’s squad wasn’t selected to compete in the NCAA Tournament.
Honestly, all of last season was a grueling one, considering the circumstances that we all know and yet try to avoid remembering.
The beautiful thing is that life goes on, and tonight serves as the fresh start that we all truly need.
Of course, this year’s team features a ton of new faces. From veterans with a ton of collegiate experience to a duo of freshmen who have the makings of being impact players right away, this team, on the surface, has plenty of talent to rewrite the narrative from a season ago.
Not to mention the four returning players who I’m certain have a bad taste in their mouth from what went down last season.
North Carolina fans can be tough- can you blame us, we’ve been spoiled! However, there is not a fan base in the world that will support you as we will. We have that same “championship or bust” mentality, and we know that you can put another banner in the Smith Center.
What we ask of you is simple: give it your all each and every night.
We’re about to start a long journey (hopefully one that takes us DEEP into March!), and it won’t be an easy one. However, this year’s team, even with so many new faces, should have a huge chip on your shoulders, as the veteran players are here for the same exact reason.
The ball is in your court now, and we can’t wait to see what the 2023-2024 season brings. You best believe that we’ll all be ready to Swag Surf amongst our fellow Tar Heels and certainly will be Jumping Around just prior to tip-off.
And just remember…
Play Hard.
Play Smart.
Play Together.
Let’s do this! Go Heels!
