The UNC football program’s sophomore running back becomes the latest Tar Heel to reach this personal single-season rushing milestone.

Omarion Hampton has joined the single-season 1,000-yard rushing club.

With his 54-yard touchdown run against Campbell, Hampton became the latest Tar Heel to join this single-season club. It serves as just another reminder of how good the sophomore running back has been for the UNC football program this season.

Hampton currently leads the ACC in rushing, as he has doubled his production from a season ago. Since Mack Brown’s return to Chapel Hill, the UNC football program has had four players rush for 1,000 yards or more in a single season. That is twice as many as any other ACC program over that span of time.

Coming off a year in which the Tar Heels did not have a true lead back, Hampton has grabbed the job by the horns, as he’s the clear-cut featured running back in the UNC football program’s backfield.

When you look at this year’s team, you could easily make a case that Hampton has been the most valuable player (even with Drake Maye under center). Hampton is starting to become the next great running back to wear the Carolina Blue.
