UNC Field Hockey secures seventh consecutive ACC Title
The dominance of the UNC women’s field hockey program continues as they secure the ACC title for the seventh straight season.
Lucky number seven!
For the seventh straight season, the UNC women’s field hockey program has won the ACC Championship. They defeated rival Duke by a score of 2-0 to capture the program’s 26th conference title.
The No. 1 seeded Tar Heels broke the scoreless tie with a highlight-reel-worthy goal from Ryleigh Heck. In fact, the goal was so impressive that it earned the top spot on SportsCenter’s top-10 plays!
Just a few minutes later, Heck set up teammate Charly Bruder for the Tar Heels’ second goal, putting the game out of reach.
Erin Matson is no stranger to ACC titles, as she won five as a player during her illustrious career. As the program’s first-year head coach, Matson made sure that the trend continued, as she guided another Tar Heels team to a championship to keep the program’s dominance going.
It’s been an incredible transition for the UNC women’s field hockey program, as replacing a legend like Karen Shelton is not an easy task. However, the 23-year-old Matson is more than ready for the challenge, as she, and the Tar Heels, have proven all season long that the UNC women’s field hockey program is ready to keep its dominance going.
