The UNC football standout running back has rightfully earned a spot among the nation’s top overall college football players.

Sophomore running back Omario Hampton has not only been one of the UNC football program’s top players but has been one of the nation’s best as well.

The country is starting to take notice of what Hampton is doing in Chapel Hill, as he has been added to the Maxwell Award Watch List.

Each year, the Maxwell Award is presented annually to the best player in college football. Regardless of position, the watch list features the best performers on the gridiron, as student-athletes can be added or removed throughout the current season.

The UNC football program now has two players on the Maxwell Award Watch List, as quarterback Drake Maye has been on it since the initial preseason watch list was released.

Hampton has had a breakout season for the Tar Heels, as he is on the verge of securing a 1,000-yard rushing season. Heading into the UNC football program’s non-conference tilt against Campbell, Hampton has 923 rushing yards and ten touchdowns, as he has essentially doubled his production from his freshman season.

Last season, North Carolina didn’t have a true “RB1,” as Drake Maye was the Tar Heels’ leading rusher. Having Hampton emerge has been a very nice luxury for the UNC football program, as he’s developed into the program’s most lethal weapon.

Hampton looks to continue his strong season while helping get the UNC football program back on track over the final few weeks of the regular season.
