The former UNC basketball standout’s future has been impacted by a major trade that was made by the Philadelphia 76ers organization.

Most of the world woke up to the news on Tuesday morning that James Harden has finally been traded.

According to multiple sources, Harden headlines a deal that sends the disgruntled guard to the Los Angeles Clippers, a deal that involves multiple players and draft picks.

In order to complete the trade, the Philadelphia 76ers needed a roster space to acquire the incoming talent. To make room on the roster, former UNC basketball standout Danny Green has reportedly been waived.

After signing with the 76ers during the offseason, the former Tar Heel appeared in two of the team’s first three contests. Now in his 15th season in the NBA, Green has averaged 8.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per contest over 832 regular season games.

A three-time NBA champion, Green has been known as an elite shooter, as he has connected on 42.1% of his career attempts while knocking down 40.0% of his three-point attempts.

Although his future is in question, Green should draw plenty of interest on the free agent market. Given that the season just started, teams may not be looking to add at the current moment, but it’s expected that Green will find a new home in the near future, as his skillset could be very valuable for contending clubs.
