The UNC basketball program’s senior guard has earned a spot on the Bob Cousy Award Watch list for the 2023-2024 college basketball season.

On Monday, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced the 20 candidates for the 2024 Bob Cousy Award Watch List.

The award, which is in its 21st year, recognizes the top point guard in Division I men’s college basketball. The UNC basketball program is represented on the list, as senior guard R.J. Davis has made the initial cut.

Here is the official list of players who are featured on the 2023-2024 Bob Cousy Award Watch List. It’s important to note that student-athletes can play their way on or off the list throughout the season.

Isaiah Stevens, Colorado State
Steven Ashworth, Creighton
Tyrese Proctor, Duke
Ryan Nembhard, Gonzaga
Jamal Shead, Houston
Dajuan Harris Jr., Kansas
DJ Wagner, Kentucky
Tyler Kolek, Marquette
Jahmir Young, Maryland
Jahvon Quinerly, Memphis
Nijel Pack, Miami
RJ Davis, North Carolina
Boo Buie, Northwestern
Ace Baldwin Jr., Penn State
Judah Mintz, Syracuse
Zakai Zeigler, Tennessee
Max Abmas, Texas
Wade Taylor IV, Texas A&M
Tristen Newton, UConn
Isaiah Collier, USC

Davis has improved over his three seasons as a Tar Heel, as he’s coming off his best statistical campaign. As a junior, Davis averaged 16.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game and is expected to take on an even bigger role on both ends of the floor during his senior year.

If he wins the award, Davis would become just the fourth UNC basketball ever to win it. He would join Raymond Felton (2005), Ty Lawson (2009), and Kendall Marshall (2012) as previous winners of the award.
