UNC Basketball: Day’Ron Sharpe stars in preseason finale
The former UNC basketball standout has made a strong case to earn some minutes in the Brooklyn Nets rotation this upcoming season.
Heading into his third season in the NBA, former UNC basketball standout Day’Ron Sharpe is looking to find a bigger role within the Brooklyn Nets regular rotation.
The former Tar Heel made a very strong case in the Nets preseason finale, as he did a little bit of everything to help propel his team to a victory over the Miami Heat.
Sharpe filled up the stat sheet, ending the night with 19 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. The former first-round draft pick also showed his improved range as he knocked down a three-pointer while knocking down 85% of his total shot attempts.
During his lone season with the UNC basketball program, Tar Heels fans saw first-hand what type of motor Sharpe possesses. A tenacious rebounder and defender, Sharpe also has shown the ability to put the ball in the basket, as his improved range should help him earn some additional minutes this season.
Other than Sharpe and expected starter Nic Claxton, the Nets don’t currently possess much depth at the center position. Sharpe is in a great position to earn a significant role in Jacque Vaughn’s rotation, as strong production off the bench could lead to him seeing an opportunity to start at some point in the near future.
