One college basketball analyst believes that the UNC basketball program’s senior guard is destined to become a star this season.

During his time with the UNC basketball program, R.J. Davis has made a name for himself.

Davis has been a key player for the Tar Heels since arriving in Chapel Hill, as he’s preparing for his senior season with the program. Heading into year four, College Basketball Insider Jon Rothstein believes that Davis is destined to be a star this season.

The UNC basketball guard was one of 10 players that Rothstein included on his list. Here’s what Rothstein had to say regarding why Davis made the cut:

"Caleb Love’s decision to transfer to Arizona means that Davis should have a bigger piece of the pie in Chapel Hill. Expect him to take full advantage. The 6-foot guard averaged 16.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists last season as a sophomore despite taking 88 fewer shots than Love, who took nearly 500 last season. Davis is in position to be an All-American during the 2023-24 season."

Rothstein cites Caleb Love’s transfer to Arizona as a big reason why Davis should see a bigger role for the UNC basketball program, most notably offensively. After averaging 16.1 points per game a season ago, Davis could be in line for an even better season, as he now has freshman Elliot Cadeau, who is notably an above-average facilitator, to work within the Tar Heels backcourt.

To add to his opinions on Davis, Rothstein believes that Davis is in line to challenge for an All-American selection this upcoming season. Based on what we’ve seen during Davis’ three prior seasons at North Carolina, this could be the year that Davis becomes a star in the college basketball world.
