Courtney Banghart and the UNC women’s basketball program are regarded as a Top 25 team heading into the 2023-2024 season.

There’s a lot of hype surrounding the UNC women’s basketball program this season, as the Tar Heels are expected to be one of the nation’s best squads.

On Tuesday, the AP Preseason Top 25 was released, as North Carolina has been named a top 20 team heading into the 2023-2024 season.

You may think that the Tar Heels should be ranked higher. However, it’s not how you start but how you finish, as Courtney Banghart’s team will have plenty of opportunities to prove its worth.

There’s been plenty of talk of how competitive the UNC women’s basketball schedule is, as the initial AP Top 25 is a testament to the challenges the Tar Heels will be up against.

North Carolina is scheduled to play six games against top 10 opponents. Their schedule features eight total games against preseason top 25 teams, which accounts for 27% of the team’s schedule.

If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best, as the UNC women’s basketball program isn’t shying away from any challenges. With a deep roster in place, the Tar Heels hope that their competitive regular season will help prepare them for a deep NCAA Tournament run come March.
