During the UNC basketball program’s media day, head coach Hubert Davis identified the guys who have the “green light” shooting the basketball.

Heading into the 2023-2024 college basketball season, the UNC basketball program will have a different look than it did a season prior.

With plenty of new faces in the mix, Hubert Davis and his staff will have ample options to work with. Of course, each team likes to identify its “sharpshooters,” as most rosters feature a player (or players) that just have the ability to knock down shots at any point.

Not every player will have the “green light” to shoot, but Davis mentioned a trio of veterans who have that option during the team’s media day on Friday afternoon.

Davis stated that returning guard R.J. Davis and newcomers Paxson Wojcik and Cormac Ryan will be the UNC basketball program’s “green light” guys.

R.J. Davis, a rising senior, is not a surprise, given he’s been one of the Tar Heels’ best scoring options since arriving on campus a few years ago. As a junior, Davis, who battled through some injuries, was second on the team in points per game (16.1), as his scoring output has increased each season he’s played at the collegiate level.

Wojcik, a transfer from Brown, comes to Chapel Hill as a career 45.3% shooter, as he’s knocked down 36.5% of college three-point field goal attempts. The graduate transfer was also named by Sleeper Media as one of the top 13 shooters in the entire country.

Ryan, a transfer from Notre Dame, is another veteran player who has proven the ability to put the ball in the basket. The New York native has a career 40% field goal percentage, including being a 35.2% three-point shooter.

One area that the UNC basketball program struggled with mightily a season ago was making shots, especially from deep. With these three players, along with some other noteworthy additions, this team has the potential to be a much better shooting team heading into the new season.
