What does Paxson Wojcik bring to the UNC basketball program?
Heading into his first season as a member of the UNC basketball program, what can we expect from graduate transfer Paxson Wojcik?
One of the big moves for the UNC basketball program this offseason was the addition of graduate transfer Paxson Wojcik.
Transferring from Brown, Wojcik is making his way to Chapel Hill in hopes of making an impact on this year’s squad. It’s not just a coincidence that Wojcik chose to transfer to North Carolina, as he has previous family ties to the program.
His father was an assistant coach for the Tar Heels under Matt Doherty from 2000-2003. Paxson was born during this time frame, as things have come full circle for the Wojcik family.
Of course, UNC basketball fans are wondering what Wojcik will bring to the table for this year’s team. Well, during the team’s media day on Friday, Wojcik provided his own answer to what fans can expect from him:
"I can bring multiple things. My shooting ability, the ability to space the floor. And then also, getting other guys involved. In the offensive system we play in, just being able to play off of others. And I think I rebound really well. I can help down low and crash the offensive glass as well. That’s something Carolina Basketball’s always been good at, so it’s something I’m excited about contributing to this year."
The first thing Wojcik mentioned was his shooting ability, as he’s earned a lot of praise for his knack of knocking shots down. Hubert Davis told the media that Wojcik is one of three current Tar Heels who have the “green light” to shoot the basketball this season.
Floor spacing is something the Tar Heels definitely could use, as last year they struggled to shoot the ball from deep, which resulted in opposing teams being able to clog the paint in an attempt to slow down the likes of Armando Bacot and Pete Nance.
His ability to be a rebounding presence is also something that Hubert Davis should love, as the UNC basketball program thrives on crashing the boards, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
Although he only has one season of eligibility remaining, Paxson Wojcik could be a guy who makes a major impact on the UNC basketball program during that span of time.
