UNC Football: TEZ WALKER IS ELIGIBLE TO PLAY!!!!
The NCAA has reversed its previous decision regarding the eligibility of UNC football transfer Devontez ‘Tez’ Walker, who is now available to play.
The saga is OFFICIALLY OVER!
Devontez ‘Tez’ Walker will now be eligible to play for the UNC football program this season!
Yes, you read that correctly!
The NCAA announced that it has reversed its previous decision, citing that the University of North Carolina failed to provide what they call “new information” that was not previously submitted.
We’ll let NCAA President Charlie Baker explain:
"“It is unfortunate that UNC failed to provide this important information previously. While we must be careful not to compromise a student-athlete’s right to privacy when it comes to sensitive issues, we want to assure the Division I membership and everyone watching how the new transfer rules are applied, that this meets the new transfer waiver standards. UNC’s behavior and decision to wage a public relations campaign is inappropriate and outside the bounds of the process UNC’s own staff supported. Had the UNC staff not behaved in this fashion and submitted this information weeks ago, this entire unfortunate episode could have been avoided.”"
The good news is that Walker is now eligible to play! Although it’s four weeks later than we all had hoped, the good thing is that he’ll finally be able to play for the UNC football program, as he is expected to debut this Saturday against Syracuse.
Both Mack Brown and Tez Walker released statements shortly after the official announcement was made:
As always, it’s a Great Day to be a Tar Heel, as Devontez ‘Tez’ Walker can finally fulfill his dreams of playing for the UNC football program.
